Audition Brief

Stars and the Moon is a unique theatre company that creates high-quality inclusive theatre. STAM’s unique castmate structure pairs performers with and without disabilities to support each other in creating excellent musical theatre performances.

The rehearsal process is fun and rewarding. Over 3.5 months, you will join our incredible team, make a lifelong connection with your castmate and be a part of an industry-standard theatre production.

Audition Process

1) Information Session

Who: Anyone who is thinking about auditioning, even if you’ve previously been involved with Stars and the Moon

When: We’ll announce the dates of the information sessions soon. Follow our social media or subscribe to our mailing list through our website to stay updated!

Where: Leibler Yavneh College (2 Nagle Ave, Elsternwick)

Although it’s not mandatory, we strongly encourage anyone who is thinking about auditioning to come to the information night. This includes people who have been involved with STAM before, as some of our processes and expectations have changed from previous years, so the structure of your role this year may be a little different

Attending the information night does not mean you have to audition. It’s just a way for you to see if Stars and the Moon is right for you.

2) Meet and Greet

Who: Performers with a disability who are new to Stars and the Moon and their guardians

When: Wednesday 15 February - Saturday 18 March

Where: TBA (Glen Eira area)

Before auditions, we ask guardians of performers with a disability to attend a meeting with the Stars and the Moon team. This will allow us to get to know the performer and their needs better. When booking, we ask that you try and find a date that the performer can attend as well.

This meeting is mandatory for performers who weren’t part of last year’s cast, and optional for those who were.

Please note that attending a meet and greet does not guarantee an audition slot or spot in the show. In order to facilitate a safe environment that meaningfully caters to everyone’s needs, if you or the STAM team do not feel we can adequately meet a performer's needs, they will not participate in the show.

Meeting times are limited and booked separately from auditions.

3) Dance Call

Who: All auditionees

When: Sunday 19 March, 10:00am - 11:30am

Where: Leibler Yavneh College

All auditionees must attend a group dance audition. You don’t have to prepare anything, just come wearing comfortable clothing you can move in, and runners/sneakers/jazz shoes. Bring a water bottle (and a sweat towel if you wish).

Our choreographer will run a fun warmup and then teach you a short dance routine, which you will perform in small groups.

The dance call will be lots of fun, high energy and upbeat! We are looking for people who are willing to give it a go and try their best – we value energy and a good attitude over highly proficient dancers.

Attending the dance call does not mean you have to attend an audition. It can be a great way to see if Stars and the Moon is something you’d enjoy.

4) Vocal (Singing) and Acting Performance

Who: All auditionees

When: Monday 20 March - Thursday 30 March

Where: Leibler Yavneh College

Singing: Prepare 1-2 minutes of a song that shows off your performance and acting ability. You might like to choose a song in the style of School of Rock- something upbeat and exciting! Make sure you have access to a backing track for your song or bring some sheet music for our accompanist to play. Email at us info@starsandthemoon.org if you’re
unsure of what to sing, or having trouble finding accompaniment/backing tracks.

Acting: Please prepare a monologue using the button below.

5) Callbacks

Who: Only auditionees who have been invited for a callback

When: Sunday 2 April

Where: Leibler Yavneh College

We will send specific vocal and acting material to each person we want to see for this round.

Please note: Receiving a callback does not mean that you’ll definitely be cast in the show, and not receiving a callback does not mean that you definitely won’t be cast in the show. Due to high interest in Stars and the Moon this year, we cannot guarantee that everyone who auditions will be in the cast.

For all questions relating to School of Rock and Stars and the Moon, please email info@starsandthemoon.org

We look forward to seeing you at the auditions!
