AUDITION MATERIAL

WHO CAN AUDITION?

Promoting diversity and inclusion in theatre is our mission. We warmly invite performers from all communities, ethnicities and abilities. We encourage submissions from Bla(c)k, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC), Neurodivergent and Disabled, Body Diverse, LBTQIA+ and Gender Diverse performers. Our auditions are held in collaboration with Conscious Casting to ensure a fair and inclusive process.

The minimum age to audition for our 2024 production is 13-years-old. Please note that neurotypical performers under the age of 18 will only be considered for the role of Pugsley.

HOW TO AUDITION?

All performers are required to attend a dance audition and acting/singing audition. All performers with a disability are also required to book a Meet & Greet*.

STEP 1: MEET & GREET*

STEP 2: DANCE

STEP 3: ACT & SING

STEP 1: MEET & GREET

For all performers with a disability

12 February – 3 March, 9:00am – 5:00pm. This is a meeting for all performers with a disability, even those that have previously been involved with Stars and the Moon, to discuss your aims and how we can support you. We ask that a parent/carer attends this meeting. Your attendance at this meeting is welcomed but optional. Your meet and greet needs to be booked separately to your audition. Attending a meet and greet does not guarantee a place in the 2024 production.

STEP 2: DANCE AUDITION

For all performers (compulsory)

Sunday 3 March 10:00am – 12:00pm. All performers must attend a group dance audition. You do not need to prepare for this audition but come with a water bottle and wearing comfortable clothes and shoes for dancing. Our choreographer will teach you a short dance routine which you will perform in small groups. The best way to succeed in your dance audition is by bringing lots of energy! Attending the dance call does not mean you have to attend an acting/singing audition. It can be a great way to see if Stars and the Moon is something you’d enjoy. You do not need to book a dance audition seperately.

STEP 3: ACTING & SINGING AUDITION

For all performers

3 – 7 March This audition takes about fifteen minutes and consists of two parts: Singing: Prepare 1 minute of a song that shows off your singing and performance ability. You might like to choose a song in the style of The Addams Family, but please do not choose a song from The Addams Family. Please have a backing track prepared - a link to a YouTube video or Spotify track is okay. Alternatively, you may bring sheet music for our accompanist to play. Acting: Prepare a reading from one of the options here. You may print the reading to hold in the audition room but we strongly encourage you to familiarise yourself with the material so that you can perform freely. The panel may ask you to repeat part or all of your audition or do some extra acting or singing. The audition panel includes the director, musical director, choreographer, cast manager and an independent casting consultant from Conscious Casting. We encourage performers to audition independently. We may film your audition for review later.

CALL-BACKS

You may receive an invitation to attend a second audition - a call-back. If you are asked to attend a call-back we will send you additional audition material.

Not all performers will be asked to attend a call-back, and receiving a call-back does not guarantee you a place in the show.
